Camping and Glamping in Haworth
Although there are no campsites in Haworth village itself, there are several options just a short drive away.
Ponden Mill
Ponden Mill Campsite offers a unique camping experience in the heart of Brontë country. Built as the first textile mill in Stanbury by the Heaton family, Ponden Mill is significant in the region's industrial history.
The mill transitioned from worsted to cotton production after 1787, powered by a steam engine.
A notable event occurred on September 2, 1824, when an explosion in the peat bog above Ponden Mill caused a massive flood. Patrick Brontë, father of the Brontë sisters, awaited his children’s return as the explosion sent water, peat, and stones down the valley.
The Brontë children were found safe, taking refuge in a porch, while other workers at the mill sought safety in the upper floors.
The campsite is dog-friendly, next to a river, with access to the Pennine Way. Located two miles from the Haworth Brontë Parsonage Museum, it offers excellent walks to Hebden Bridge and other Brontë-related sites, including the hill that inspired "Wuthering Heights."
Ponden Mill Campsite features a grass woodland area by the river, with generously sized pitches on flat, well-drained ground. The site has stunning views under the shadow of Scar Top Chapel.
Essential facilities such as toilets, showers, and a washing-up area are within 100 meters of the pitches. A local pub is just a five-minute walk away, and grocery stores are available in nearby Haworth.
Wuthering Heights Inn
This famous pub in Stanbury, just down the road from Haworth, offers a charming campsite nestled in a secluded spot behind the pub with spectacular views across the Worth Valley. Ideally positioned for walkers, it is located just off the Pennine Way, Bronte Way, and Millennium Way.
Visitors don't need to be serious walkers to enjoy the stunning Brontë Moors; a 45-minute walk will take them to Top Withins, the inspiration for "Wuthering Heights." The site is quiet, adults-only, and welcomes well-behaved dogs. Note that access to the site is via a flight of 30 steps.
The campsite features two glamping shepherd huts named Emily and Charlotte, nestled under the trees on the camping field. These huts blend into the landscape but offer a charming, comfortable interior with stunning countryside views.
Each hut is warmed by a log-burning stove and has solar-powered lights and USB chargers. The simple exteriors hide pocket-sprung mattresses with 500-thread count Egyptian cotton bedding, making it a glamorous camping experience.
Emily’s door opens onto a small balcony, while Charlotte’s opens onto a small deck, both offering stunning views. Both huts come equipped with crockery, cutlery, and a thermos flask. Guests can bring their own barbecue or camping stove, or enjoy home-cooked food served daily at the pub.
The site also has space for tents, offering camping at an affordable rate. Facilities include toilets, showers, and a utility room with a fridge, kettle, drying facilities, and a hairdryer, available with a returnable deposit for the key.
This adults-only site does not cater to campervans or motorhomes and is strictly for guests aged 18 and over.
The shepherd huts are dog-friendly for a small fee per stay, with each hut sleeping two people comfortably.
Upwood Park
Upwood Holiday Park offers a country escape just one mile from Haworth. Visitors can enjoy stunning panoramic views over the surrounding countryside, with easy access to the Worth Valley steam railway and local attractions.
The park welcomes tents, touring caravans, and motor homes, offering camping pods, static holiday homes, and even Mongolian yurts. Facilities include indoor and outdoor play areas, a games room, and a bar with live music on Saturdays from March to November.
Accommodation options range from basic pods to fully furnished Mega pods and Mongolian Yurts. The Mongolian Yurts feature a double bed, sofa bed, table with chairs, lamp, TV, microwave, fridge, kettle, log burner, and electric heater.
Mega Pods provide a cosy retreat with a fixed double bed, sofa bed, toilet, washing sink, table with chairs, fridge, microwave, kettle, and flat screen TV with DVD. They are heated and insulated for year-round comfort.
For beginners, Standard Heated Pods offer a comfortable introduction to camping, eliminating wind-swept tents and soggy sleeping bags.
The park also offers grass or hard standing pitches with hook-up facilities for tents, touring caravans, and motor homes. Modern amenities include a centrally heated toilet and shower block with laundry and disabled access.
Residential Park Homes are available for those seeking a quiet retreat with panoramic views over the Brontë hillsides.
